Do I get native 4k ULTRA HD?
Everest was primarily shot in 3.4k resolution on Arri cameras. Some footage was then added in 6k thanks to RED cameras. In addition, the film uses footage from IMAX cameras (from a documentary from the 1990s). Despite all this, all post-production was done in 2k, which means that for the purposes of the Ultra HD Blu-ray presentation, the material was additionally upscaled. Foreign reviews describe the upgrade in both resolution and sharpness as noticeable, though not downright stunning. They also praise the HDR and WCG work, which brings slightly more natural and deeper colours (especially skin tones), and especially the excellent work with highlights, thanks to which even in the brightest scenes the drawing is not lost and the image has noticeably increased in brightness (and thus contrast). In general, the Ultra HD Blu-ray is rated above average.
