Do I gert native 4k ULTRA HD?
Although Man of Steel was shot on analogue footage (35mm film), the scanning and therefore the subsequent mastering was done in 2k resolution. It is therefore additionally converted to Ultra HD. In terms of the amount of detail, the Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray editions are very similar. The new transfer particularly benefits from HDR, which gives the film much deeper blacks (sometimes at the expense of shadowgraphy) and, in places, much stronger brightness peaks. The opening scene on Krypton, for example, makes the most of HDR's capabilities. Thus, the film benefits from UHDBD primarily in terms of luminance dynamics.
