Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?

Yes. Spielberg's unjustly overlooked film was made in the era of all-analogue productions, when 35mm film was used and post-production was purely photochemical. This allowed the studio to revert to the original negatives as part of the restoration work, whose theoretical resolution of around 6k is more than sufficient to create a new 4k master. The film was cleaned and analogue defects were corrected during the digitisation process, but at the same time the visual qualities of the 35mm image were preserved, making The Color Purple look as intended and as the 35mm dictates, including the appropriate amount of grain. HDR was also taken into account in the restoration, which allows the new transfer to squeeze the absolute maximum out of the source negative, ensuring the best possible look for the film, surpassing even that of the theatrical release.
