Do I get native 4k ULTRA HD?

Yes. Goodfellas was of course shot on analogue film, i.e. 35mm film stock. This was restored for the 25th anniversary of the film and its associated Blu-ray edition, and scanned at 4096 x 2160 pixel resolution for subsequent mastering. This allows the Ultra HD Blu-ray to reflect the native 4k source and, given its analogue origins, is the most faithful reproduction possible - given the nature of analogue recording, it will not be possible to 'get' more image information from the tape in the future.

The reviewers admit in the texts that the disc has slightly better grain definition and draws detail better here and there. However, the benefit of a wider colour spectrum and HDR is, in their opinion, minimal. In addition, the disc allegedly does not work well with blacks, which either bleed or have worse shadowing than the original Blu-ray. The benefit of the UHDBD presentation is therefore not nearly as great as originally expected, which may be partly due to the fact that Michael Ballhaus' camera itself did not produce visually appealing images.
