Yes - and in reference form! The sequel to the legendary Top Gun was created through the lens of state-of-the-art camera technology. The new Sony CineAlta Venice cameras in IMAX configuration, which captured and stored raw footage in 6k resolution, played a major role. Full post-production, including rendering of the final master, was then done in 4k, allowing the transfer to rely on the native 4k master to provide the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with the maximum amount of image information possible.
In addition, Top Gun: Maverick was shot in key action sequences in what we have come to call the "IMAX version", namely these scenes are shot in open matte mode, where the maximum possible sensor area is used to then make the image of these sequences vertically extended when projected in IMAX. This variation is also present on the 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray, so no image information is lost.
Given the quality of the Sony Venice cameras, one can expect nothing but a totally reference image from the disc, both in terms of detail, for which the native 4k master is a quality breeding ground, and in terms of colour and brightness transitions (HDR is present on the disc in both standard and premium Dolby Vision form). Alongside this, of course, is the absolutely fantastic Dolby Atmos track that underlines the excellence of this release.
