Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Director Todd Phillips originally wanted to shoot the film in analogue, ideally even 70mm. But after testing Arri's large-format digital cameras, the cinematographer was convinced to use the Arri Alexa 65, whose giant chip can deliver up to 6k footage. The resolution of the raw footage eventually stopped at 5.1k, with these then supplemented to a lesser extent by 3.4k and 4.5k clips from the Arri Alexa Mini and LF. All of this was downsampled to 4k for post-production purposes, which is the resolution the master eventually stopped at. The UHDBD transfer of Joker therefore takes the image information from the native 4k. In addition to higher quality compression, this allows it to offer significantly more detail and sharpness, which are then complemented by an even wider brightness and colour space thanks to HDR and WCG. These are all technological advantages that neither Blu-ray nor most conventional cinema projection can match, and so it's safe to say that the home cinema version of Joker looks the best of its entire distribution chain.

Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Joker: Folie à Deux continues the visual brilliance of the first film. Like its predecessor, it was shot using the large-format Arri Alexa 65 digital cameras. The production opted for these cameras after being captivated by their results compared to 65mm film, deeming the digital equivalent superior.
The raw footage, captured in 6.5K and subsequently finalized and mastered in 4K, promises nothing less than pushing the visual limits of modern filmmaking. Expect exceptional sharpness, detail, color reproduction, and HDR performance. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, with its transfer spread across three layers to maximize technical potential, delivers a truly reference-level viewing experience. When paired with the right home theater setup, it can surpass the quality of most current theatrical screenings or more heavily compressed streaming formats.
