Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Jurassic Park was, of course, shot on 35mm analogue film. Only the CGI shots were digitally processed, rendered in 2k and then imprinted back onto the film. These will probably be slightly softer in terms of the transfer compared to the other footage. In any case, the original negatives were restored and scanned in 4k during the recent 3D re-release, and under Spielberg's supervision, new colour grading was added to try and bring the filmmaker as close to the original vision as possible. From this master then comes the Ultra HD Blu-ray transfer with a new HDR pass and sound remixed in DTS:X.

Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Universal has confirmed that it has produced new masters for two more Jurassic titles in addition to the new master that was created for the 3D relaunch of Jurassic Park. These, like Spielberg's one, were made before the movies were being finished on the DI copies. Both sequel films were thus photochemically finished, with the VFX sequences printed directly onto the film stock. So the studio cleaned up the original negatives, scanned them in 4k and did a new colour grading in HDR. Since the 4k scan came directly from 35mm film stock, and the HDR gives the new master a tremendous range of color and brightness, it is true that the film benefits not only from significantly better detail and color. In addition to the "non-trick sequences", the CGI/VFX ones are given new life - whereas on Blu-ray the poor gamut of the transfers hurt the digital effects, UHDBD is able to get so close to the 35mm strip qualities thanks to HDR that it paradoxically benefits the three-dimensionality and realism of the VFX. Most importantly, there's no question that Jurassic Parks won't get better than a UHD presentation with HDR, this is the ultimate home transfer that beats even previous cinema presentations.

Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?
The visually impressive image of Jurassic World, with its unusual aspect ratio of 2.00:1, was created using several types of cameras and recording materials. In addition to Super35 film and 6k digital footage from Red Epic Dragon, it was primarily 65mm film stock, a truly impressive combination. The film was then finished in hybrid 2.4k at 10 bits. So while the master is upsampled for the purpose of an Ultra HD presentation, it's clear after crop conversion that the 2398x1199 source resolution can offer considerably more than a 1920x960 pixel Blu-ray presentation (plus it draws grain better). Already on Blu-ray, Jurassic World looked astonishing, as we wrote in a Blu-ray review years ago. But with over a million extra source pixels, better compression, HDR, and DTS:X audio, the Ultra HD Blu-ray offers much more and looks phenomenal both in terms of artwork and HDR.

Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Information about the mastering of the new Jurassic World is not published anywhere. All we know is that the film was shot on Arri Alexa 65 digital cameras, which record at a staggering 6.5k resolution. They were supplemented in slow-motion shots by Arri Alexa cameras. In addition, the filmmakers tried for as many purely practical effects as possible, which would suggest that the film may have gone through a 4k master, matched by the enthusiastic foreign reaction, which calls the transcript a reference and certainly the best looking of the entire series. We can't be sure, all we know is that reviewers are calling the difference in the detail of the transfer significant. And that - as always - the Ultra HD Blu-ray, in addition to the increase in resolution (whether it's from 2k or 4k), primarily benefits from the combination of WCG and HDR, which is further complemented by a Dolby Vision layer. Indeed, we gushed over the qualities of the transcription in our Blu-space review.

Do I get native 4k Ultra HD?
Yes. Trevorrow brought in cinematographer John Schwartzman, with whom he shot the first Jurassic World. This collaboration led to the same process as in the first instalment, where virtually the entire movie was shot on large-format analogue film. Specifically, the bulk of Dominion is shot on 65mm, which was subsequently replaced (as the laboratories capable of processing such large format were closed during the pandemic) by Vistavision - a kind of alternative to large format recording, which uses a 35mm negative, but which is exposed horizontally, so that when shot in a 2.00:1 aspect ratio, the negative has almost the same exposure area as a conventional 65mm.
One single scene was shot on digital cameras (in the caves - due to lack of light), but even this was subsequently imprinted onto analogue before being scanned back into digital to preserve the "film look".
In any case, all the analogue material was scanned into digital form, in 4k resolution, for post-production. The resulting master is therefore a native 4k transfer, providing the 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray disc with an enormous amount of visual information with the potential for reference spectacle. At the same time, the image retains the characteristics of the analogue strip: film grain and tremendous exposure flexibility, which the disc can then exploit through HDR. As with the visually extremely well done first part, we can expect a downright epic spectacle and we get a film with a technically superior presentation than what the audience had the opportunity to see in the cinemas.
